In yet another development of the Google versus Yelp battle for control of the search market, Google has added new Yelp-like features to their popular Google Maps iPhone and iPad app.
Google made several changes to their app to mimic the review-based power of Yelp, one of which is an “Explore” feature which lists nearby restaurants and activities organized in a handy guide that changes based on your location or time of day.
The biggest change Google made, however, is the way that users can search for local businesses around them. Search results now appear directly in the map and can be filtered based on things like price and rating- just like Yelp.
This change means big things for local businesses looking to get found online. Now that it’s easier than ever for customers to find what they’re looking for with the world’s most popular search engine, it’s more important than ever to have an updated, highly-rated Google profile.
